 Whispering Pines, North Carolina is located 5 – 10 minutes from Southern Pines NC and Pinehurst NC. The community was originally developed in the late 1950's and it was incorporated about 40 years ago. Houses are the primary type of property for sale in Whispering Pines. Most of the homes are more than 20 years old, but there has been a big surge in new home construction in the last several years. Whispering Pines has become a very popular choice for military families because it is about 30 minutes from Fort Bragg and because it provides access to some of the best schools in the area .  The community has a total of 8 lakes , including Thaggards Lake, which is perhaps the most scenic of all the lakes in Moore County. Thaggards Lake is slightly bigger than 200 acres, which is more than adequate for water skiing. The other lakes are: Spring Valley Lake – 90 acres, Pine Lake – 45 acres, Whisper Lake – 40 acres, Shadow Lake – 28 acres, Fly Rod Lake – 8 acres, Cardinal Lake – 5 acres, Blue Lake – 9 acres. All of the lakes are open for use by residents of the Village. Lakefront property is available.
There are 3 golf courses in Whispering Pines, and all of them feature golf front properties – Whispering Pines CC, Whispering Woods CC & The Carolina Golf Club. These are all very good golf courses. The Whispering Pines Country Club features two 18 hole tracts, while Whispering Woods and The Carolina each have 18 holes. Homes and Building Lots are available on all three courses and on interior roads within each golf community.
Home Prices in Whispering Pines range from under $200,000 to over $500,000. There are some new developments that feature new homes beginning under $300,000.

The towns of Pinehurst and Southern Pines are within ten minutes drive, offering excellent restaurants, modern shopping plazas, and small quaint specialty shops. Nearby Sandhills Community College offers a wide variety of lectures, concerts and exhibits, including one of the most popular horticultural gardens in the state. It also has an expansive continuing educations program for those of all ages.
Only seven miles from the Village is Moore Regional Hospital, a member of the First Health network. Moore Regional is a modern, full service facility that is rated in the top 100 cardiac care centers nation-wide. A recently completed oncology wing has opened and is affiliated with Duke University Hospital. Offices and clinics of a variety of board-certified medical specialists are part of the broad spectrum of medical care within the Moore Regional area.
The village continues to be a community for both retirees and younger families. Parents are particularly attracted by the quality of the Farm Life School System. This ideal community is surrounded by rural land, and yet easily accessible to fine shopping and fine restaurants.
Lakefront real estate starts at $300K, with off lake homes starting at $200. There still are some vacant lots available on the lake.
