 In Southern Pines, Hyland Hills is a public course located on one of the highest elevations in the County, making it a very scenic course designed by Tom Jackson. - Pro Tees – 6,970 yards (72.1/128)
- Men's Tees – 6,373 yards (69.0/128)
My favorite holes : the 6 th (Par 3), the 16 th (Par 4) and the 7 th (Par 5).
The Club
The course is on the easy end of the scale from the Men's tees. You can either play from the Pro tees to make the course a little more challenging, or play the Men's tees and give yourself a chance to card a pretty good score playing from your standard tee. Hyland Hills is one of the most affordable places to play golf in the Sandhills. That's not a negative, though. Anyplace else, this course would be classified as a very good course. It has a lot of famous neighbors, so it stays under the radar in Moore County . I played after 2 pm on a weekend recently, and the fee including the cart was about $30 . There are a lot of elevated tee boxes, or at least downhill tee shots, and you'll get your fair share of unlevel lies. There are also a few very challenging water shots, although there are not too many hazards on the course overall. The greens are always soft, so good approach shots stay that way. THE BOTTOM LINE – A great course for golfers on a budget or even low handicappers who want a place to go and fine tune their games out of the spotlight. I play at Hyland Hills a lot when I just have time for 9 holes in the evening. It is also the closest course to Horse Country, which makes it even more convenient for me and other folks who live in that area.
