McLendon Hills is a gated Equestrian Community less than a mile from Seven Lakes and about 15 minutes from Pinehurst. The neighborhood will celebrate it’s 20th birthday in 2017. It features a community barn with paddocks, a covered riding arena, 8 miles of riding/hiking trails and a very nice lake inside the gate. Paved roads run throughout the neighborhood. Residents can keep horses on their own property . . . . or board in the professionally staffed community barn. The 80 acre lake is a great place for paddling and fishing . . . . and the water is clear and clean enough for swimming!
Homes in McLendon range from about $300k to $650k. Obviously, the horse farms are slightly more expensive than the single family homes on acreage. Regardless, all of the houses are very nice and the setting is beautiful and rolling. The neighborhood grows a little every year in terms of the number of houses, but there are still some great building lots available if you’d like to build. Lot Prices range from about $50,000 to $250,000, with the most expensive lots being on the lake. McLendon Hills is laid out with some small horse farm tracts and some regular home sites on large lots – over 200 lots in all – of varying sizes, with horse farms permitted on the large lots (1 – 10 acres). This gives you the opportunity to choose between a small farm OR a regular home on several acres. If your home is not on one of the horse farm lots, you can still board horses in the community barn! It’s a great option if you have a retired horse(s) or if you yourself are retired from riding actively.
The community barn is the best of it’s kind locally – and the common riding facilities, including the covered arena and the trails – are fantastic. The lake is also a great amenity if you enjoy fishing or paddle sports. The trails double as walking/jogging trails . . . . and they wind their way around the lake.
